The establishment of the anti-establishment.

Like a Hitmonchan flinging a Drain Punch into the cheekbones of a Chansey, I strike my words into the vast wastes of the Internet.

Welcome to Super Effective. In due time, this will become a haven for creative contemplation on the video game industry, the forces that shape it from within and without, and the occasional review of a “new” release. (Let’s face it, I’m a schmoe with a day job.) Things may take a while, but I’m more interested in giving you a more… one hates to use the word “artistic,” but perhaps “concept-oriented”… take on the game at hand.

So, where am I coming from with this? I’ve got a degree in Film Studies, which I’m presently putting to use by working at a beer distributor down the street. (You never know when someone’s going to come up with a question on whether Miller High Life or Bud Select goes best with a viewing of The Prestige.) It wasn’t always this way, though! Back in college, I wrote video game reviews for the ever-respectable school newspaper. From there, I branched out into covering video game news, CCG reviews (well, just .hack//ENEMY), and even covered a couple restaurants on and near campus. Fantastic, eh?

Then I fell out of the loop. I won’t go into it, suffice to say it was family and health issues. Enough of that, then.

This is my new start. I’ll be maintaining certain aspects of my previous experiences (such as a four-star review scale), but with the knowledge that I’m no longer writing for a campus full of students, but for the vast internet and its bevy of competing content. Sure, I may not have the resources to compete on the higher levels… yet. But perhaps the more intimate, more analytical style I’m going for will refresh those who are weary of the more commercially-centered big-name review houses.

Further, I hope to offer interviews, analysis, commentary on news stories, completely tangential rants, and the occasional funny screenshot. (I tend to collect a lot of those…) If I’ve just finished an online game, don’t be shocked if I post contact information/friend codes, as increased interactivity. Consider this the Anything-Goes School of Video Game Blogging. (Just don’t splash me with water; I’ll turn into a Metool.)
